The middle school period is an important stage of the nine-year compulsory education and also a crucial stage of the growth and development, physical and mental maturity of students. More importantly, it lays a foundation of sports knowledge and skills before entering senior high school.Affected by the exam-oriented education, in fact, the time students spend on the sports activities in the school everyday is hard to guarantee. The phenomenon that the physical education class is occupied by other teachers occurs frequently. As time goes by, the constitution of students declines obviously, which is bad for the their mental and physical health and overall development, and will severely influences their study and daily life. In this case, it is important to response to the call of the CPC positively and deeply implement the Central Government No7 document and sunny sports activities, as well as vigorously carry out colorful sports activities in middle schools and improve students’ physical and health level. This thesis analyzes from the perspective of the present situation of line dance in middle schools’ physical education in Chengdu city, and systematically analyzes the form and content, organization and management, the attitude and motivation of students’ participation, and the publicity method of middle school line dance teaching activities in Chengdu city, using research methods, such as the documentary method,interview method, questionnaire method and so on.The research results have shown that the proceeding situation of line dance in the middle schools in Chengdu city is in the initial phase. Both the students and teachers are keen on the line dance movement, and welcome it be part of the school’s physical education. But in the process of popularizing in the school’s physical education in Chengdu city, there also exist many obstacles. The summary is as follows:Firstly, the competent authorities pay little attention to the line dance. The carrying out of a sports event, to a large extent, depends on the leaders’ awareness and recognition level to the line dance teaching.Secondly,the tachers’ level is not high enough. For the developing and innovative line dance teaching, the lack of professional knowledge, poor dance creative ability and so on are not good to the development of the line dance.Thirdly, the teaching effect is not obvious in a large class. The middle school physical education still takes the form of mixed class consisting of boys and girls.The number of students is so large that it is difficult to organize and mobilize.Besides, the learning progress of boys and girls is different,etc. All of these lead to the deficient teaching effect.Fourthly, the middle school students have few favorite line dance songs. There are a small quantity of line dance songs aimed at the middle school students. And the Chinese original songs are few.On this basis, four suggestions are put forward for the better carrying out of line dance in the middle school physical education.Firstly, the school leaders should raise the awareness and recognition level to the line dance movement.Secondly, the superior departments are supposed to arrange teachers to participate in the line dance training.Thirdly, the teaching content should meet the students’ need and reflect the students-oriented concept.Fourthly, popularize the line dance movement, and create a good campus sports culture atmosphere.
