Comparing with basketball and soccer, it not only has lowered mass-based, but also develops very slowly. Lanzhou as the development of less developed city in China, the development of the volleyball movement is far less than the general level of volleyball development, other domestic cities is still relatively backward level, but the development of Lanzhou volleyball has some impact on the improvement of overall level of volleyball and balanced development of universalization in the whole country. If we want to make the development of volleyball sports in Lanzhou to be effective, we should begin from teenagers. Teenager is a big target group for the development of volleyball sports, they are not only the main power in the development of competitive volleyball in our country, but also is the basis for the popularization and development of recreational volleyball and backing. Therefore, this paper choose Lanzhou middle school students as subjects, based on the theory of sports population, using literature, questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics, logic analysis and other research methods to define the concept of volleyball population, according to standards and to investigate the population of Lanzhou middle school volleyball, aims to find out the factors that affect the development of Lanzhou middle school volleyball population, in order to expand the volleyball population of Lanzhou middle school better provide reference, to the comprehensive development of volleyball movement, provides a powerful reference opinions to make lanzhou middle school volleyball have better popularization development.The conclusions of this research paper are as follows:1. The volleyball population ratio of Lanzhou middle school is low, its ages, genders have unbalanced structure; moreover, it has single activity form, profile control, the school attaches great importance to the extent of volleyball the learning interest of students. Students to participate in the activities of volleyball motivation is to enhance physical fitness and entertainment to relax, subjective objective will be greatly affected by the school.2. There are many factors that influence the development of Lanzhou middle school volleyball population. The main factor is the lack of government department of physical education, supervision, and examination. Volleyball atmosphere is bad at school, there are few volleyball class, volleyball venue and lack of sports funds, lack of professional teachers; it will cause that students take less opportunities and have lack of interest in volleyball. What’s more, there are some individual schools that do not pay attention to encourage the students to participate in volleyball after class.3. The most important policies to develop and expanse Lanzhou middle school volleyball population is to strengthen government policy, funding, institutional regulation and support; to strengthen school volleyball league volleyball activities, management system, and engage in more activities; free of volleyball venue on a regular basis; and also volleyball project should be brought into the examination project, in order to promote the development and popularity of volleyball in school.
