After implementing the policy of reformation and opening, the age structure of the residents had obvious changes in Lanzhou, especially in the last ten years. Currently, the studies on population aging mostly focus on the present state, the development process, the causes and the effects from a non-spatial perspective. What's more, the aging population studies of sub-district level were less relatively. Under such situations, this paper analyzes the spatial evolution characteristics,from the number of changes, structural changes, the type of change, spatial distribution, correlation characteristic aspect of the elderly population in Lanzhou based on the fifth census data in 2000 and the sixth census data in 2010.The results showed that: in terms of the space growth of elderly, elderly population in Lanzhou City increased with rapid speed, The proportion of the elderly population increased from 6.26% to 8.76%, Show Lanzhou city has entered the ranks of aging the population growth difference among municipal districts was significant, and the gap was relatively moderate between blocks. Between the spatial distribution of population aging neighborhoods exhibit a strong positive correlation, spatialdistribution of the population aging tends to spread and gradually were evenly distributed, the aging population trend was gathering. The spatial structure of the proportion of aging population is relatively stable. The hot spot is located in the old city, and extends east-west direction. The cold spot is located in the old city periphery. The number of blocks is reducing and its scope is gradually shrinking, and they are distributed in theChengguan and Anning areas.
