The Nursery Of Civic Education

Recently,more and more attention is payed on citizen morality and citizen quality.In our country, citizenship education has also begun to enter our vision. More and more primary and secondary schools begin to carry out varieties of citizenship education activities. As a student self-government organization, high school student council is an important way for school citizenship education. Through self-government, students can pay attention to and participate in the public affairs in school and the citizens' participation awareness can be cultivated to realize the rights and responsibilities as citizens. Meanwhile, a good foundation for becoming a social citizen will be laid by students self-government. In order to analyze the current situation of high school student council and find out the ways to promote it's development,which also helps the student council open a larger space of public life, the A High School student council is selected as the object of my research in this article.There are four sections in this article. The first is to make the image of the high school student council clear and clarify the value of high school student council's self-government to citizenship education.Then, according to the characteristics of the high school student council, the standard of high school student council's self-government is put forward and will be used as the basis for the research and analysis in this article. The second part describes the author's research process in the A High School. The whole picture of A High School student council is shown in four aspects:the origination, the daily functions, the working guidelines and the subjects of student council. The third analyzes and discusses the degree of student council's self-government by the breadth, depth and scope of democracy from Carl Cohen. And then discuss the influence of students' self-government on citizenship education. In the forth part, four ways are put forward to promote the breadth, depth and scope of student council's self-government:change the conception, make the rules together, comply with the rules of Robert and cultivate personal basic ability. Which is hoped to make the student council self-government truly become the effective way of citizen education.
