Research On The System Of Student Government Association In American Universities Based On Ideas Of Shared Governance

Endowed with the power of the students to participate in universities governance to promote the rationalization of universities authorities configuration and democratization of decision-making in university governance,which is a certain tendency ofthe development of higher education management in recent years.Students participating in university governance is an important component of sharing and balance of governance authorities in the concept of shared governance.Based on the development of shared governance concept,the idea of students participating in university governance and sharing the authorities of university decision-making was becoming from omitted to clear.Accompanied by the continuous practice and evolution of shared governance in the university governance of United States,the Students Government Association also gradually explored the effective method for students to participate in the shared governance.As the channel and carrier of American college student to express interests and participate in the university governance,The Student Government Association is one of most important practice of university governance under the concept of shared governance.After nearly 50 years of development,the Student Government Association formed a multi-level and multi-channel,more effective participation mechanism on student participation in university governance mechanism.On the basis of literature research,this paper used the history method,case analysis to summarize the evolution of the Students Government Association,the background,the nature of the organization,and its structure.Meanwhile,analyzed its operational mechanism,digging the elements such as structure,method and progress under the background of shared governance concept.This paper wants to reveals the advantages and values of the governance mechanism in the Students Government Association.In addition,the connection with the Students Government Association and decision-making departments is a critical factor to make students in collaboration with the interests of the university of other related subjects,as well as consultative jointly committed to the university governance.It is not only making the students reasonably and effectively participating in the university governance,but also optimizing the expression mechanism of students' appealing to.Moreover,compared with the older student authorities forms,the renewed Students Government Association has made obvious progress in decision-making mode,the connection way,supporting mechanism,the effectiveness of participation,independence and creativity.It is a more comprehensive,systematic,effective,and more influence student authority organization as well as the students' extensive participation,which makes the Students Government Association becomes an integral part of students participating in the university governance.I conclude that American Students Government Association has a clear shared governance idea as the guidance,and it has legal protection,the funding system,thriving supporting organizations and the reasonable structure to support and some the existing problems.Thus,it can be a reference for the application to domestic students participate in university governance organization construction.
