Research On The Institutional Changes Of The Board Of Directors Of The American Church In China

From TengChow college announcing its university level in 1877 to the adjustment of colleges and departments at the beginning of the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1951, because of the special religious background, American missionary university in China, after nearly a century's development, drew a lot of criticism in the process of running, but it still created an era, and became an important part in Chinese modern higher education development history. Although in the beginning, the school were opened to disseminate religious teachings, but their vigorous development in the 1920s and the efforts to improve teaching conditions after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, had promoted the development of the cause of higher education in China, which had trained many high level talents for the country and the nation. It is closely linked with its quality management system of colleges and universities.This paper studies the vicissitude course of the board of American missionary university in China, using literature analysis method, historical research method and case analysis method. Through the research and analysis of the various history archives, history books, etc., this paper is trying to clearly summed up the evolution and characteristics of the board of American missionary university in each historical stageThe introduction part mainly introduces the background and significance of the topic, the definition of important concepts, the research status of the system of the board of directors at home and abroad and the research methods adopted.The first chapter introduces the system of the board of American colleges and universities, analysis the structure of the board members, function and operation procedures to obtain clear understanding of the system of the board of directors of the American colleges and universities. Then the United States church university board system in China during the middle of the 19th century to the 20th century 20 years is analyzed. By studying the United States church university board system in Soochow University, Zhejiang University, the University of Nanking, this paper is try to clearly understand the situation of the board system before 1920s.The second chapter is mainly to analyze the changes of the American Board of directors of the Church of the United States before the outbreak of the war of Anti-Japanese in 1920s. First, the change of the social background of the research, the Burton Commission in China led the reform of the church universities in China, regaining education rights movement in 1920s and also in the external force the storm case in the Chinese Church University Board had to reorganize, then take Zhijiang University, St. John's University, Shandong University the United States and other well-known churches in China University as examples, to analyze the changes of the system of board of directors, members of the authority structure and operation procedure of the board of directors of the board China in proportion to 2/3, the president of the school board resigned by Chinese as the main seed, the power of board of directors is dispersed and function is weakened, and the operation procedure is also intervented by government.
