This study is based on macroscopic rethinking about gender culture; examines the development trend of ancient and modern gender culture at home and abroad. Based on microscopic reflection on the absence of gender education and phase characteristics of students'physical and mental development of school education, this study uses interviews, comparative method, painting research and observation to compare similarities and differences of the high-grade and low-grade primary school students on understanding the definition of gender roles, gender satisfaction, and external and internal features of gender roles. This study also focuses on discussing different understandings of lower primary students and upper primary students on gender roles.Conclusions are as follows:there are differences and similarities in the upper and lower primary students' understanding of gender roles. In terms of similarities, upper and lower grade students' definition of gender roles covers similar dimensions, including the amphoteric physiological characteristics, psychological characteristics, activities, and personal habits, their understandings are with opposite characteristics; secondly, the upper and lower grade students mostly tend to be satisfied with their own gender; Finally, upper and lower grade students have binary opposition tendency of traditional stereotype on specific understanding of the present social behavior about physiology characteristic, psychological characteristics. The differences of upper and lower grade students' understanding on the gender role are mainly embodied in the following aspects:firstly, about gender roles definition, the upper primary students pay more attention to the secondary sex characteristic than lower primary students, their definitions toward appearance of both sexes and psychological aspects conform more with current social reality and are more flexible and deeper than lower primary students; Secondly, the lower grade students are more satisfied with their own gender identity than the upper grade students, and most of the upper grade girls like to be men for the sake of personal safety of female characters, a few upper grade boys prefer female qualities, such as gentleness and kindness, and they prefer women's pleasing appearance; Thirdly, the upper grade students' understanding of gender career are more open than lower grade students, but their understanding of sexual intercourse tend to be more conservative than the lower students; Finally, the lower grade students are more rigid than the upper grade students in the understanding of gender roles of internal and external features, and the lower grade students are short of profundity and flexibility. The views of lower students are rigid.Based on the above conclusions, this research discusses factors that influence the understanding of the upper and lower grade students of elementary school about the similarities and difference of gender role, and points out that in terms of similarities, factors mainly include biological factors, social factors and subjective factors, however, in terms of differences, factors mainly involve two aspects including social and subjective factors. In order to promote students'formation of healthy personality and gender equality consciousness, this study puts forward opinions and suggestions on how to construct family gender culture, harmonious school education atmosphere of gender equality and health mass media environment, so as to provide elementary school students parents, teachers and the mass media with references for children's gender equality education and creating environment which is conducive to the development of children's gender equality concept.
