Nowadays, socialist economy is increasingly improved and the reform of higher education is constantly deepened. Moreover, social values are pervasively transformed and reconstructed. Under this circumstance, college students' discrepancy among ideals versus reality, moral cognition versus moral practice and community versus individual is undeniable and it is increasingly serious in company with those factors: the influence of unhealthy social environment, the absence and the ignorance of moral education in higher institutions, and the psychological immature of college students themselves. As for the ideological and political education of college students,how to get rid of this situation and create new systems to guide students to apply knowledge into practice is the top prior issue for the ideological and political education workers.Wang Yangming, a famous ideologist, proposed that the Unity of Theory and Practice is the proper way to realize moral self-discipline. His proposition manifests the educational value of this ideology from the theoretical and practical prospective.His ideology and the modern ideological and political education of college students are concordant in terms of the background, the pursuit and the pathway. This accordance is the reason that the Unity of Theory and Practice, which thrilling since five hundred years ago, is still valued to the ideological and political education of college students.The value of the ideology of the Unity of Theory and Practice entails in three ways. First, it emphasizes that the educators should guide and instruct students by their own values and behaviors. It implies that improvement of the professional morality and personality charm of educators, as well as the service platform of the establishment of educators' morality are helpful to strengthen the exemplary role of educators. Second, the ideology suggests the accomplishment of the Unity of Theory and Practice should arouse the goodness of students. To intensify the subjective consciousness of students, educators should focus on the improvement of their moralempathy and moral self-discipline. Finally, it stresses that encouragement, emotional edifying and disciplining such methods can promote students' application of knowledge. As for the ideological and political education of students, it is crucial for educators to felicitously utilize some useful approaches to facilitate students' unity of knowledge and action, approaches like value clarification method, emotional edifying method, action learning method, etc..
