Women's higher education is the advanced stage of the schooling of women, and it is of great significance to promote women's liberation and realize the equality of men and women. Along with the modernization of UK, with more than 100 years of development, British women's higher education has achieved good results in terms of scale and quality, leading the development of world women's higher education. Studying British women's higher education, summarizing its rule and learning lessons is the current way to realize the reform of higher education more effectively.This article is divided into five parts.The first chapter, prologue. This chapter elaborates the origin of British women's higher education and achievements in the preliminary development period. British women's higher education began in the 19th century, and went through a difficult course. Women overcame many difficulties and got the qualification to sit in the local examination, women's college started with difficulty in Cambridge and Oxford, many universities began to recruit women, and women's higher education developed to different extent across the UK. During this period, facilities of the institutions of women's higher education improved, the educational goals became more and more clear, school life of students became diverse, and the management ability and teaching level continuously improved. In some universities, women can get the corresponding degree when graduation, the struggle for higher education had made phased victory.The second chapter introduces development situation of British women's higher education in 20th century. In 20th century, women finally got degree. With a growing number of universities and women's colleges in universities to recruit women, more and more women from different social classes entered university, the number of women who entry university to accept higher education was growing; In university, the course and major women can choose expanded, the education quality and education level improved; With the development of women's higher education, the number of female teachers in university continued to grow, some women got into the top management panels; British women's higher education gradually realized coeducation, forming the development model of coeducation system supplemented by women's college which continues up toThe third chapter analyzes the social background in which British women's higher education made progress in 20th century. In economic aspect, women's contribution to the labor production led to the improvement of women's social status; In thought aspect, the rise of the feminist movement played a major role in changing social view of women and women's cognitive on their own; In cultural aspect, women made progress in the elementary education and secondary education gradually, consolidating the foundation of the development women's higher education; During the two world wars, with men going to the front line to complete the military mission, women who stayed in the rear joined the social production, further changed women's status in society.The fourth chapter combs the characteristics of British women's higher education in 20th century. From the point of development process, British women experienced countless hardships in their way to get higher education; From the point of motive force of development, women played a major role in the process of the development of women's higher education, and the awakening and independence of women was the premise; From the point of class forces, the middle class, especially the middle class women became the mainstay in this process, and they made tremendous contributions; From the point of the development result, the development of women's higher education was of great significance to improve women's social status.Based on the above research, the fifth chapter makes comparisons between the differences of the women's higher education of the UK and China, and gets the following enlightenments:First, government should strengthen the legal construction to ensure the development of women's higher education. Second, government should create a positive social environment, people should change concept to strengthen the social support of women's higher education; Third, the quality of institutions of women's higher education should be improved to promote the diversification of higher education; Fourth, women's physical and mental development rule should be taken into account in school management and the teaching process to break the limitations of the choice of courses and subjects for women; Fifth, women teachers should have equal opportunities in teaching, scientific research, as well as authority; Sixth, the development of independent consciousness of women should be encouraged.
