Women's higher education is attracting more and more attention, and how to develop women's higher education relates with the vital interests of every woman. American women's higher education appeared in the first half of the 19 th century, which has been nearly 200 years so far.Looking back the history of its emergence and development,American women's higher education has experienced a long and hard times.The channels and learning content of American women receiving higher education are in constant development and changes, the number and hierarchy of American women receiving higher education in the constantly expanding today.Without the pioneers who have been always trying;without the American women who never give up with the enormous amount of fight grit and unrelenting tenacity;without the United States government's support, American women's higher education cannot acquire such a distinguished achievements.According to the chronological order, this thesis elaborates and analyzes the development history of American women's higher education in the 19 th century with the perspective of feminism, using the methods of documents analysis, historical analysis and case study method etc., through the analysis of the early development of American women's higher education characteristics and historical contributions, this thesis is trying to put forward reflection to the development of Chinese women's higher education.This thesis is divided into three parts:Introduction;the principal part which consists of four chapters;and the Conclusion.Introduction part mainly elaborates the reasons and the significance of choosing the topic, research status at home and abroad, concept definition, research ideas and methods.Chapter one introduces the background of American women's higher education, the social factors,thought factors,educational factors and other factors led to the origin of the women's higher education in the United States.Chapter two introduces the original type of women's higher education institutions, including independent female college, coeducational university and affiliated college for women,the last part takes the Troy Female Seminary as an example,by introducing its formation, development and influence to explore the early educational model of women's college.According to the above content analysis, chapter three summarizes the characteristics and historical contributions of the early American women's higher education.Through the comparison of the development of Chinese and American women's higher education, chapter four tries to put forward reflections on the development of women's higher education in China.Conclusion sums up the early development of American women's higher education in the 19 th century,expounds its development process and summarizes its revelation, it tries to be used for reference for the development of Chinese women's higher education.
