With the trend of protecting intangible cultural heritage of the world, folk art has been seen as the precious cultural property and developmental asset by most people and local governments. More and more people began to realize the great value and potential of it, and applying folk art to art teaching has become a hot topic in the field of education recently. On the one hand, protecting excellent culture of folk art is the natural mission for basic art education. On the other hand, rich folk arts can also inject fresh blood into the arts teaching, which not only enriches the content and form of art teaching, but also stimulates students'interests, improving their abilities of creative thinking and practising, so as to better achieve art teaching targets and develop education. However, according to studies of folk art in art teaching, there are still some aspects to be strengthened, and most researches are only at the theoretical level, rather than the experience summaries based on practice.This paper, combining theoretical study and field visit, focusing on Mashao Face in Shaanxi folk art, analyzes the development and application of folk art in junior high school art teaching, and proposes some specific strategies for setting courses'type, content, goal and evaluation method. Also, it compiled practical teaching cases in the light of the related situation, trying to make a comprehensive and in-depth analysis for Mashao Face entering the art teaching in junior high schools, by which this article will further make a conclusion with regard to other folk arts, even in a more wider sense, intending to provide a reference for teachers at art classes.This paper is mainly divided into three parts:the first part expounds the basic connotation of the folk art, introduces the theme, process and artistic value for Mashao Face of Shaanxi folk art, and makes the the analysis and explanation on the necessity and feasibility of applying folk art to the fine arts classroom. The second part is combined with practice, in which the detailed strategies for teaching folk art in junior high schools will be discussed. In the third part, according to the requirements of the four parts in junior art curriculum, and aimed at integrating Mashao Face with students' life and design elements, four practical teaching cases are compiled, based on the principle of teaching and learning supplementing each other, and related analysis and reflection are also put forward briefly.
