Singing (vocal music) and playing music (instrumental music) are the main expressive forms of the musical art. As the base of musical art, they must work together to cultivate and develop basic musical skills and artistic culture.After the foundation of new China, the Chinese basic music education improves hardly. Due to the old educational mode and regional difference, the development of music education is unbalanced. Singing becomes the overwhelming form, and instrumental music, which is another important form of music expression, has never got enough attention. Now this has become the vulnerable spot which makes our music education incomplete.With the development of the society and the educational idea, this problem has been given attention and begins to solve. The latest edition of junior high school music syllabus has written this problem in it. The junior high school music syllabus (2011 edition) indicate clearly that music instrument-based teaching plays a very important role in proving the understanding and expressive ability of music for junior high school students. This statement emphasizes the connection between singing and playing music. This also makes playing music more important. Because of this, the theoretical researches of instrument teaching increase a lot.Drum, as one of music instruments, has distinct rhythm. It is easy to handle, so it is suitable to be used in junior high school teaching. It can improve the enjoyment and make the students eager to learn. The advantage of this method has been proved in the practical teaching of the writer. After search the paper about drum teaching in junior high, the writer found that, most researches are theoretical, and the researches about practical teaching are rare. Many problems about practical teaching are still unsolved.Therefore, this paper is mainly about the practical usage of drum instrument in junior high school musical teaching. Some of the problems and solutions will be discussed in this thesis, based on the document literature and practical experience of the writer in Qujiang middle school in Xi'an, Shanxi province. Some teaching cases are also in this thesis for other educators.Using drum in junior high school musical teaching, is a good way to satisfy the requirement of the new edition of syllabus, and to arouse the studying enthusiasm of the students, to extend their horizon, to improve their abilities to discover the beauty of music are. It also can improve teaching achievement. This thesis contains 4 parts, which are:Part 1, introduce the background of this thesis and value. Then make brief introduction of drum.Part 2, the direction of junior high school drum teaching reach will be discussed in this part. The advantage of drum teaching, the characteristics of junior high school students, the teaching materials and teaching method etc. are also involved.Part 3, A practical teaching case based on an famous traditional Chinese Pipa music composition"Ambuscade Everywhere" will be shown in this part. This case is will lead the students to feel beauty of drum instrument.Part 4, another case will be shown in this part based on Africa drum to discuss some teaching problem.The conclusions of this thesis are:(1) The usage of drum in junior high school music teaching, could satisfy the requests of students, arouse their studying enthusiasm, and achieve good results.(2) This method could also to extend the students'horizon, make more fun and make them learn the relative culture.(3) This education mode makes the students become the center of teaching. This could improve the educational situation, and make the students excellent.
