As the most important and valuable resources in the university,professors have the important duty of training students and conducting scientific research.The design of professors’ system is so important for the development of a university.In order to further improve the academic competitiveness of the university,promote the quality of teaching and scientific research,and to meet the "First-Class Subject and University" put forward by the Chinese Education Bureau,scholars pay more attention to the research on the teachers in the university,especially on the professors.As we all know,medieval universities originated in the European continent."The combination of teaching and scientific research" was creatively put forward by Germany universities in the early 19th century,so the teachers in the university began to play a role as a researcher to improve the development of science and technology.German traditional and unique professors’ system has a fat-reaching effect on the whole universities.German universities have reformed the professors’ system to adapt to the new wave of internationalization of higher education in the early 21st century,which makes its development much concerned by domestic and foreign scholars.Based on the above reasons,this paper conducts the investigation and analysis of the professors’ system in the Germany universities,focusing on the contemporary arrangement and operation mechanism of professors’system.Firstly,this paper defines the scope of German universities.According to the current classification of German universities,this study defines "German universities" as universities(Uni)in Germany and other equivalents with doctoral degrees.Then,the concept of professors’ system in German universities is analyzed.It is concluded that the "professor system" mainly includes the access system,appointment system,promotion system and salary system.Secondly,the evolution and development of the professors’ system in Germany is described,the arrangement and operation of professors’system in the current German universities is introduced,and the basic characteristics of professors’ system in German universities are analyzed.Thirdly,the main value of the professors’ system is refined and some suggestions are provided on how to improve professors’ systems in Chinese universities.This study makes the professors’ systems in German universities as the object,creatively combs the evolution and development of the professors’ system in Germany,and updates the information on the research that it describes the arrangement and operation of professors’system in the current German universities,which provides a good theoretical basis for future research.
