1988-1999,Shanghai carried out “the first phase of curriculum reform”.Since 2000 Shanghai is undergoing “the second phase of curriculum reform”.Compared the content of mathematics textbooks of these two curriculum reform and it will be found that one of the biggest changes is the addition of reading materials.This article is to study the application status of teachers and students in reading materials and analyze the reasons,in order to improve the effective use of reading materials in mathematics textbooks.This paper reviewed the related literatures at home and abroad,then obtained some theoretical basis and research enlightenment of reading materials.And focused on the analysis of the category and quantity of reading materials in the junior high school mathematics textbooks of Shanghai Education Press.After that the questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the application status of teachers and students in reading materials.Both of the questionnaires for the teachers and the students involve: their understanding and the attitude for the application of the reading materials in mathematics textbook,their application strategy of the reading materials in mathematics textbook,their experiences in the application of the reading materials in mathematics textbook,their feedbacks and expectations for the reading materials in the textbook.At the same time,interviews were conducted with several teachers.Studies have shown that: 1)There are several kinds of reading materials in the mathematics textbook,such as knowledge extension,mathematics culture,scientific method,mathematics application,interesting mathematics.At the end of each chapter,there are 1-3 mathematics reading materials that are presented in the form of the whole text.2)Teachers and students have a comprehensive understanding of the application of reading materials and they have affirmed the significance of reading materials in some aspects.The frequency and quantity of reading materials used by teachers and students are not high,which need to be improved.The application of reading materials in the mathematics textbook of teachers is mainly from the aspect of knowledge connection,which is quite realistic.However,students consider more about their own interests.3)At present,the teaching strategies of reading materials are relatively simple and the exploration of it is not enough.So the educational function of reading materials is not effective.The students are not active in the study of reading materials in the mathematics textbook.Most of the students are in a passive learning state and blindly rely on the teacher's explanation.4)Teachers believe that reading materials in the mathematics textbook are helpful to activate classroom atmosphere and create teaching situation.As to students,reading materials mainly help them develop interest in learning mathematics and broaden their knowledge.5)Most of the feedbacks from teachers and students on the quality of reading materials in the textbook are not perfect,but feedbacks on the amount of reading materials are positive.At the same time,teachers and students also show their own ideas on the preparation of reading materials,mainly focused on the two aspects of content selection and presentation.6)Junior high school mathematics teachers should carefully study the reading materials and handle it with flexibility.They also should enhance learning and communication and update their teaching methods.Junior high school students should change their concept of learning and learn the reading materials actively.The compilation of mathematics textbook should be improved in the aspects of content selection,presentation and arrangement.
