As a regular column,Reading and Thinking in the junior high school mathematics textbook published by the People's Education Press(abbreviated as PEP Edition)is an important resource,with impact of intension and extension in mathematics teaching.Based on sorting of related literature,major research issues include promoting impacts of Reading and Thinking and the current situation of Reading and Thinking in teaching.To understand the above research issues,firstly,literature analysis was employed to understand the current situation of research,and finalize scientific thought;and secondly,four basics selected,e.g.basic knowledge,basic skills,basic ideas,and basic experience as framework for analysis of text content,and preparation of questionnaire to understand current situation of use;and finally,statistical analysis method used for quantitative analysis.In addition,case analysis was also used to set forth operability of the teaching strategy.The column of Reading and Thinking could promote teaching practice,including: to introduce formation and development of mathematical knowledge,to help students to understand knowledge,to develop good thinking and learning attitude.An organic knowledge system was established with the other content in the textbook.The result showed that use of Reading and Thinking column by teachers mainly depended on cognition degree of purpose and value of Reading and Thinking column,which determined demand and use in teaching.Trend of high acceptation and less application was observed,and therefore the column should be placed emphasis on and studied in teaching.Key factors a teacher should consider when using this column included relation with main text,length of teaching period and status of students' understanding.The result showed that use of Reading and Thinking column by students was influenced by teachers' attitude in teaching,which would affect students' active self-reading;Content of Reading and Thinking column is more suitable for students for reading,with proper level of difficulty for students.Students needed teacher's guidance and explanation in learning resulting from individual differences.According to the nature of the teaching function of Reading and Thinking column,the column is divided into declarative knowledge column and procedural knowledge column.Teaching strategy of declarative knowledge column included:(1)to enhance way of presentation and to reduce the cognitive burden;(2)to understand evolution of concepts and nature of mathematical knowledge;(3)to understand the development characteristics of mathematics disciplines and to show the subject spirit.Teaching strategy of procedural knowledge column included:(1)increasing student ability to extract and process information,and to accumulate learning experiences;(2)to improve application with mathematical model;(3)and to analyze methods of mathematical thought and promote the construction of knowledge system.
