Education is an important means of human society to develop and continue,for how to education,who is going to education,what education content,as so on,the discussion of these core problems is debated and differences.Amy Gutmann is a famous American political theorist;she has its own unique insights for these problems,and provides a fundamental education for democratic education.As the supporter of deliberative democracy,she expected through the deliberative democracy education to solve the contradiction of coexistence of pluralistic society education field value differences,and through the shaping of rational thinking in order to achieve a higher level of social civilization,and promote free all-round development,through for the community to create more good public life and social order to promote the development and progress of human society.Gutmann's theory of democratic education came from the criticism of traditional education ideas and the response to the modern popular ideas,formed in the absorption of deliberation western democratic thoughts and Dewey's education,matured in specific education practice development.She criticizes and analysis the traditional education theories such as the liberal education thought,the conservative education thoughts,functional education thought,highlighting the development of democratic education,the urgency and necessity of introducing the theory of democracy.In response to cultural pluralism,internationalism,citizen response of the bottom line,and other modern popular thought,triggered the consultation from the theoretical perspective of democracy and made a scene for the development of a democratic education.Gutmann on the basis of absorbing Dewey's democracy education thought and in development to discuss western democratic thoughts,counsel democracy and democratic education perfectly blend together,and then build a distinctive deliberative democracy education.Gutmann used "conscious social reproduction" as the core,formed a complete set of education theory with the characteristic of deliberative democracy around the core.She developed the education ideal and goal:foster citizen's rational ability to review and noble democratic virtue.She insisted the horizontal and vertical suppression principle of nondiscrimination principle as a necessary condition for democratic education;Urged share the educational authority by the parents,citizen and professional educators,developed authority distribution about the democratic education,and so on.She also applied these theories to the practice of education,to further reflection theory itself.At the same time she also by the use of John Rawls's "reflective equilibrium" analysis method,developing and perfecting deliberative democracy education theory,and the theory is repeated demonstration and adjustment in specific education practice.Gutmann's theory of democratic education broadens the research view of the theory of education,updates the education theory research thinking,enrich the people view of education ideas.It not only has important theory value about developing the democratic education,pushing on the democratic politics.But also has important inspiration and reference about how to innovate education system,promote education reform and modernization of education management in the context of globalization.
