The Enlightenment Of Xunzi's Moral Education Thought On Ideological And Political Education

President Xi Jinping pointed out in the Symposium of Culture and Art Work that the essence of China' s traditional culture is the lifeblood of the Chinese nation, and should be inherited and carried forward in light of the new situation of the times.Although Xunzi's doctrines, particularly on ethic education, inevitably have limitations, as an important component of traditional Chinese culture, it has an important enlightenment on the current ideological and political education.Xunzi proposed his doctrine of original evil of human nature, which is the logic source of his doctrines on ethic education. He pointed out that, "humans are evil in nature,and their kindness is hypocritical",and xing is the human nature that if unrestricted, it will lead to evil. He distinguished xing from wei and pointed out that we should change xing to wei, arguing for the necessity and feasibility of ethic education. Based on this, Xunzi put forward the objective of his ethic education and classified people into "scholars", "gentlemen" and "sages". His doctrines on ethic education are rich in content. They are related to honor, ecology and other aspects. He advocated li and law, put forward that integrity can make God, and so on. Xunzi also proposed a series of practical and effective methods in ethic education, such as some teaching methods and learning methods.Xunzi's doctrines on ethic education have an important inspiration on the ideological and political education. Discussing the objective, main content and methodology of Xunzi' s ethic education and its inspirations on the purpose, content and methodology of current ideological and political education is an innovative effort in this paper. In terms of objective,Xunzi classified people into "scholars","gentlemen" and "sages",suggesting the classification of objectives in current ideological and political education. We should adhere to the fundamental goal of the ideological and political education, diversify the specific goals and combine them together. In terms of content, Xunzi's ritualistic and legalistic doctrines suggest the current generations to continue to value, promote and optimize ethic and legal education, and specifically, to promote and deepen the education of the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, the Socialist Concepts on honors and Disgraces as well as ecological ethics. In terms of methodology, Xunzi taught his students by making himself a role model and creating a favorable environment for them, and taught himself by combining learning with thinking and through ethical practice. This suggests proper methods to be used in current ideological and political education.Specifically, educators should be role models for learners; families, schools and the society should create a favorable environment for ideological and political education;learners should fully cultivate and make use of self-education.
