General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that we should draw on the essence of ideological and ethical values from the excellent traditional Chinese culture,and strengthen the excavation and interpretation of the ideological values of excellent traditional Chinese culture.Xunzi is one of the outstanding representatives of Confucianism in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.Based on absorbing "the learning of a hundred schools of thought," he developed his unique theoretical ideas.His moral education thoughts are a unique and important part of ancient Chinese educational thought,and have important enlightening significance for ideological and political education in the new era.This article deeply studies the existing 32 original texts of "Xunzi" and comprehensively sorts out the research results on Xunzi’s moral education thoughts,systematically expounding the social background,theoretical references,main contents and enlightenments to contemporary ideological and political education.In particular,this article focuses on the enlightenment of Xunzi’s moral education ideas on contemporary ideological and political education,and is committed to providing theoretical guidance and methodological references for the work of ideological and political education in the new era in order to achieve the fundamental task of cultivating talent with morality.By delving deeply into and applying Xunzi’s philosophy of moral education,we can positively impact the reform and development of ideological and political education in the new era.This article is structured into four parts,with the first part primarily discussing the research background and significance of Xunzi’s moral education philosophy on contemporary ideological and political education,as well as current research status both domestically and overseas.he second part provides a corresponding summary of the social context and theoretical references that gave rise to Xunzi’s philosophy of moral education.Xunzi’s philosophy of moral education did not come out of nowhere.He inherited the ideas of previous philosophers regarding moral education,combined them with the social context of his time,and gradually developed his own unique system of moral education theory.This way,he creatively developed the Confucian philosophy of moral education.The third part focuses on the main contents of Xunzi’s philosophy of moral education,including the goals,content,and primary methods of Xunzi’s moral education system.The main objective of Xunzi’s philosophy of moral education is to cultivate an ideal personality,which can be divided into three levels: "the scholar," "the gentleman," and "the sage." The content of this philosophy mainly includes five aspects: the perspective of heaven and humanity,the view of governance through rites,the view of righteousness and interests,the view of honor and shame,and the view of integrity.Xunzi’s methods of moral education include the cultivation of virtue through accumulated good deeds,the shaping of environment through correcting customs,practical exercises through knowing by doing,leading through exemplification of proper behavior,and self-education through careful self-reflection.The fourth part analyzes the enlightening insights that Xunzi’s philosophy of moral education brings to contemporary ideological and political education from the perspectives of both educators and learners.This section proposes several practical methods for inheriting and developing Xunzi’s philosophy of moral education in the new era.
