English story reading is an important way to stimulate English learning interest,help accumulate English vocabularies and improve foreign language study abilities.Therefore,as an important component of elementary school English teaching,story reading teaching has received the attention of first-tier teachers all the time.As the starting grade of English reading teaching,Grade Four becomes rather important to the cultivation of student's reading abilities.However,in the teaching practice,numerous problems exist in elementary English story reading lessons,leading to the depressed class atmosphere,low teaching efficiency and the impossibility of developing the corresponding advantages of story reading class.For these problems,this study takes TZ elementary school as an example,and focuses on the practical research on fourth grade English story reading teaching.It tries to find ways to solve these problems.At first,this research further investigates and studies the current situations of story reading teaching in this grade through questionnaire investigation on students,specific interviews on teachers,problem analysis on English lesson preparation and class.The study found such phenomena as students' lack of methods in English story reading,little attention paid to reading and the urgent need to help develop good reading habits,which have a direct cause-and-effect relationship with the current situation of running story-reading classes.Many teachers do not attach importance to such course in practice,leading to their improper teaching methods and off-the-subject teaching activities.Besides,anchored on the investigation result,it offers some advice on reforming the English story teaching strategies.Afterwards,it analyzes the emerged problems during the practice of preparing lessons and giving lessons,and summarizes the specific strategies of English-story-teaching activities for Grade Four of elementary school during the process of solving problems.In the end,it concludes the experience in the following four aspects—pre-reading,while-reading,post-reading and evaluation,analyzes and addresses the problems unsolved in teaching practice as well.This paper is aimed at giving some enlightenment and reference to the teachers who are teaching English story reading,making it possible for English story reading to be included in the daily English teaching and to become an effective curriculum resource in elementary school English reading teaching,cracking the difficulties in English reading teaching,and thus offering some reference to teachers to improve story reading teaching.
