Reading literacy is an important part of the student’s necessary learning ability.In social,families,schools,and students that affect students’ reading literacy,reading engagement,individual factors are more vulnerable and improved,and PISA also pointed out that reading engagement is the most relevant student characteristics of reading literacy.The fourth-grade student is in the important phase of “learning reading" to "learning from reading",this stage is a key period of cultivating reading habits and enhancing reading literacy.We need to pay attention to students’ reading,attach importance to students’ reading engagement,and promote students’ reading literacy,lay the foundation for their lifetime learning and individual development.This study focuses on the influence of the fourth grade student reading engagement on reading literacy.With reference to existing research,the relevant research tools were prepared by the PIRLS reading literacy assessment framework and PISA reading engagement theory.227 fourth-grade students in two schools are selected as research objects,and used descriptive statistics,regression analysis,and difference analysis to analyze collected data.Through investigation,we can derive students’ status quo of reading engagement and reading literacy,and further explored the influence of reading engagement on reading literacy,and propose targeted recommendations.Through research and exploration,the following results were obtained:(1)The reading literacy of the fourth-grade student is generally in the medium level.Students perform more excellent in narrative text and poor performance in high-level reading capabilities.(2)The reading engagement of the fourth-grade students is in the middle level.The student’s reading time is not enough,the reading range is small;reading engagement performance is affected by the factors in the class.(3)Reading engagement and reading literacy have significant positive correlations in general.Also,reading engagement and reading literacy have positive correlations in three dimensions(behaviors,emotions and cognition),and the most influence of cognitive engagement on reading literacy.(4)Students in different reading literacy levels have significant differences in reading engagement,and the higher the students who have a high grades in “reading literacy test”,the higher the reading engagement.Combined with the results,the corresponding recommendations are as follows:Improve students’ reading engagement,guide students to reasonably distribute reading time,and actively use reading strategies to read,develop good reading habits;improve students reading ability,make up students in illustrative text and high The lack of reading ability,promoting students comprehensive development;reasonable use of impact mechanisms,enriching reading text,paying attention to students reading attitudes,and building a good reading environment in home schools,promoting students’ reading literacy.
