Abstract/Summary:
The theory of "Advanced Organizer" attracted people’s attention since it was first proposed by American psychologist David Ausubel in 1960. As a teaching strategy,"Advanced Organizer" is aimed at taking advantage of existing knowledge and experience of the students and helping them learn new concepts. Since junior three is an important period of enlightenment of chemistry learning for students, this work focuses on the application of "Advanced Organizer" strategy on chemistry teaching in the third year of the middle school chemistry classes because this period of time is an important duration of enlightenment of chemistry education. In this work, we designed the proper "Advance Organizer" which can help the students to understand chemistry better based on their cognitive characteristics. In this work,we first analyzed the concept of "Advanced Organizer",the psychological mechanism, types and implementation strategies of "Advanced Organizer"; and then,we built up a bridge in order to connect the "Advanced Organizer"concept in course curriculum with students, cognitive characteristics. To achieve the goal,we set up an experimental class with using of "Advanced Organizer" strategy which is compared to a control class without performing "Advanced Organizer"concept. By evaluating students’ scores and performance in our two complete cases and four fragment cases, this work elaborates the designer’s purpose and practice process in details. We found that the application of "Advanced Organizer" strategy on chemistry in the third year of the middle school chemistry class is feasible and valuable. In most cases, as a consequence of applying such strategy, students got higher scores and better performance which implied that "Advanced Organizer" presented a positive result. In addition, this advanced strategy stimulated students’ interest in learning chemistry at the initial stage especially for the students with strong learning ability. In the end, we had a reflection of the experiments and results and proposed a plan to improve this research.
