This dissertation is based on the theory related to instructional design that raised by Robert J.Marzano.It aims at coming up with a complete plan of English instruction unit design,giving solutions and suggestions to solve the problems about instructional design in China,promoting the education evolution,furthermore illustrating the feasibility of applying Marzano’s instructional design ideas into Chinese middle schools.This dissertation firstly classified and analyzed the literature about English instructional unit design,find out the problems of the lack of integrity in unit design,the discordance of instructional objectives,strategies and assessment,and focusing on too much objectives and strategies but disregarding the assessment design.In chapter2,this paper sorted,concluded and stated the instructional theory of Marzano including his taxonomy of educational objectives,the idea of effective teaching strategies and learning assessment.After this,the author induced the coherence of instructional objectives,strategies and assessment of Marzano’s theory.In the next two chapters author made an English unit design plan based on Marzano’s instructional theory and idea,analyzed the English lesson unit design and period design plans of one junior middle school in Shanghai and revised it according to the unit plan raised in previous chapter.The research applied the specific plan to an English teaching unit and demonstrated one period design of this unit as an example for the last chapter to prove the theoretical analyze.This research makes a conclusion that the instructional objectives,strategies and assessment of Marzano’s theory are as one in unit design,and they can successfully guide the English instructional unit design in Chinese middle schools and apply to specific English unit design.But the teachers should pay attention to understanding the instructional theory of Marzano as profoundly as possible and choose the proper strategies according to the specific context.These are the difficulties and challenges when we apply the unit design plan to class.The plan raised in this research is still a reference for English teachers to perfect their unit design and a valuable material for further study in unit design area.
