General institutes of higher education is the main position for higher education,which integrate the functions of scientific researching,teaching,management and social service functions.Student affairs administrators is an important part in the team of college personnel,which play a dual role,both teachers and managers.They are undertaking the daily management of higher education,student affairs administration and other administrative work at the forefront of ideological and political education,which ensure the harmony and stability of colleges.However,compared with teachers' teaching and researching,the results of student affairs administrators can not be seen quickly and directly,which is placed in a secondary position easily.Therefore,the career development of student affairs administrators is influenced by many factors.According to the current situation of the career development of student affairs administrators,there are some problems such as narrow career development channels,frequent job switching,and long promotion cycles,which greatly affect the enthusiasm of the student affairs administrators and their loyalty to the job.Therefore,studying the career development of counselors has a important practical significance.‘Gender Theory' hold that the orientation of gender roles formed by individuals in the process of socialization influences individual adaptation and career choice.On this basis,this study introduces the ‘Gender Role' theory into the field of Public Administration.According to the process of ‘Discovering problems-Analyzing problems-Solving problems",we take 183 full-time student affairs administrators in five general colleges of Shanghai as the research object,using interviews and questionnaires to discuss the relationship of ‘Career Development' and ‘Gender Role'.In addition,we also compare the differences of career development between different gender student affairs administrators and compare the career development differences of individual diversity.Finally,from the view of human resources management in the public sector,this study puts forward some career development suggestions at the individual level of student affairs administrators in order to find the direction of career development accurately.At the same time,in terms of human resources management in colleges,this study puts froward the countermeasures of evaluating the ‘Gender Role' testing,constructing a professional development channel for student affairs administrators with ‘Gender Role' orientation.It is hoped that the conclusions of this study can provide some valuable suggestions for the management of human resources in colleges and universities to some extent.
