| Mr.Fan Shoukang was an aesthetician,philosopher as well as educator active in the early 20 th century of China.His education thought is rich in content and runs through Chinese and western culture.He devoted his whole life to injecting the western education ideas into the traditional Chinese education thoughts,which has a distinct time feature.With profound theoretical foundation and rich teaching experience,Mr.Fan has made his education philosophy brilliant and have a unique meaning in the history of Chinese education.This paper starts with the background of Mr.Fan’s life experience,combining with the background of the special times in Republician of China era and the Early Days of Restoration(1945-1949)inTaiwan.Based on Mr.Fan’s life story,this paper refines the concrete content of his education thoughts,and analyzes the causes and social significances of these education thoughts.In turn,this paper reflects on the historical contribution of Mr.Fan and makes a reasonable value proposition to his historical contribution.Mr.Fan’s education thought,actually,originated from the social restoration of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,the era background of social modernization.It then developed as Mr.Fan completed his overseas study in Japan,and evolved when he held his position in Department of Translating in Commericial Press,responsible for publicity and priting materials,sticking to the base areas of Anti-Japanese War.It finally became mature and stable after he moved to Taiwan and experienced the reform of Japanese colonial education.Specifically,Mr Fan’s philosophy of education thoughts are scattered not systemic.However,the author thinks that his thoughts can be roughly summed up in four main aspects: educational teleology of “Ideal People”,educational ethics,life aesthetics and education ethics.At the same time,Mr Fan’s education thoughts and practice are not just confined to the individual,but also the transition of the old and the new and the social transformation of the whole Chinese society.It reflects not only the lifestyle and pursit of the generation in the first half of the 20 th century,but also the development of China’s new education in the 20 th century.The series of Mr.Fan’s education thoughts not only gained some practice at that time,but also hatched some achievements,and will still have some enlightenment and reference for contemporary education. |
