Core Competencies and Values for Chinese Students' Development suggested training students into “people who can facilitate social development” in “a way that fits one's personal lifelong development”.The education principle of our school is: “Training students into people who have kindness,responsibility,national complex and patriotic enthusiasm,who know how to learn,practice,communicate and think”.Combined with student core competencies and values as well as our school's principle,this research proposes the school-based curriculum development whose main goal is to develop student 's “science spirit”,“learning to study” and “taking responsibilities”.Thus,we can enrich the courses students can take,and therefore meet their demands for d iversified developments.The research goal is to develop a school-based curriculum,which is aimed at cultivating students' core competencies and values.The main development of this curriculum includes applications,sources,and principles of common matters in our daily life,as well as analysis of some common phenomena.The course name is Science in Life.The author of this essay is responsible for the chemistry part of the course.The main methodology applied here is action research.With the study of both domestic and foreign documents,we explained concepts emphasized in the research such as core competences and values,and school-based curriculums.We clarified the theoretical relationship between core competences and values and school-based curriculums.Based on the theoretical framework of school-based curriculum construction,we analyzed the current situation of our school,and constructed curriculums on the school level.Finally we elaborated the whole process of development from several angels,including curriculum objectives,course content,curriculum organization and implementation,curriculum evaluation,etc.This research showed that: First,the school-based curriculum development based on core competencies and values should start from the school 's education principle.Second,the content choice of Science in Life should consider more about students' particular learning experiences and study environments.Third,adopting diversified evaluation subjects will help encourage students to actively join classroom practice.
