Our country has witnessed a rapid growth in technology industry, with numerous science museum under construction; however, there have been some problems with items on display in our science museum for a long period of time. From observations and analysis of interactions between children and items on display, interactions between children and their family members, and interactions among families, also with the help of previous literatures, this essay aims to delve into the flaws of interactive exhibits in science museums, and come up with the relevant solutions regarding the design of items on display.Based on the research of this essay, the interactive exhibits have problems in appearance design and functional design. Items on display are also short of innovations,and they cannot catch up the pace of the trends of our era. Problems also appear on the design of items, which are not human orientated; on the function of the parents- children interaction and social interaction; on the illustration design; and on the extant mundane design of rest areas.In order to change the design issues in some aspects, items on display in science museums should wholly consider audiences’ psychological and physical needs, and should pay special attention to details on appearance design. Some parent-children interactions and social interactions can be strengthened; furthermore, the content of design can be broadened. Lastly, the design of items on display should be innovatively fused with the design in other areas.
