Interactive Exhibits In Science & Technology Museum Children Area

Childhood in a person's life is full of innocence and desire of exploration, just like the early time of the development of ancient human civilization. This is the best time for children to learn Chinese characters, also the most important period to develop children's imaginations, which like the Cangjie Making Character in ancient time.Unfortunately, for schools in China, the teachers are generally adopt the cramming teaching method, especially in teaching Chinese characters, teachers told children only to memorize them mechanically. Chinese characters originated from pictograph, which is the carrier of national culture. The best enlightenment education way for children is letting them learn pictographs, and accumulating the perceptual knowledge of Chinese characters. There is no such an exhibit for children to learn pictographs both in China and foreign museums. So it is very necessary for all museums to design such an interactive exhibition teaching thing for children to understand and learn.Firstly, this paper analyzes the historical background of the story “Cangjie Making Character” and the present situation of exhibits in China's Science &Technology Museum; finally get the conclusion that designing the exhibit of “Cangjie Making Character” is very necessary. Secondly, I studied a lot of related literatures about the exhibits, acquired the theoretical basis of exhibit design. Thirdly, I researched children's Chinese Character learning situation of primary school and 3 large Science &Technology Museum's exhibition design in Children Area. Finally, based on the above research, I designed the interactive exhibit designing scheme——“Cangjie Making Character”. And make the exhibit models so that people can have a clearer understanding of the exhibits.The interactive exhibits——“Cangjie Making Character”, is designed for the children at the age of 6-8 years old. The whole exhibits consist of four interactivesessions; each session designed elements for pictographic character and throughout the whole activities. While designing, direct experience for the exhibits was added, and children can participation the activities based on following ways, including guessing,painting and sealing. This can stimulate creativity and imagination, and their interests in learning, making them have a better understanding of the pictographic character,cultivating their ability of capturing the main characters of things, experiencing another happy learning way, laying a strong foundation for their future study life.
