In recent years, additive manufacturing technology has attracted more and more attention. In the medical, military, aviation, education and other industries are increasingly widely used. In 2014 worldwide production scale of additive manufacturing have up to $4 billion, its growth also accelerated, china output value of 800 to 900 million RMB, we can see that the additive manufacturing industry has great prospects, and the industry in China has great potential. The design of the support structure has important significance in additive manufacturing process, to ensure the parts position accuracy, stability and action to prevent parts tilt deformation in the molding process. So it is necessary and significance to study the support structure design method in additive manufacturing.In this paper, the research contains two important parts, optimization of building orientation and the design of the support structure research. In the additive manufacturing the part building orientation will affect the design of parts supporting structure largely. So the frequently used goal of building orientation optimization are analyzed and the number of support structure optimization model is analyzed and improved. Finally this paper optimize building orientation used the algorithm genetic, including the single and multiobjectives. At the same time, this paper also improved the solving process of genetic algorithm, improves the operation speed of the algorithm.In the design of supporting structure, the thickness of the support, especially for straight and grid support, is certain. There are some deficiencies in this method. In this paper, it is the first time joining size optimization idea into the design of the support structure, put forward support structures studies in advance manufacturing base on size optimization. By using this method, the support structure are building according to the structural characteristics of parts in different parts which to some extent can save building material. When it comes to the realization method of support structure, it was carried out in Matlab programming based on the STL file format. Finally, the optimization method and support design method of this paper is verified by examples. The results show the correctness and the effectiveness of the proposed approach.Through this study, the optimization model of building orientation in additive manufacturing is more reasonable, and improve the calculation speed of genetic algorithm. Besides, the formation of support structure is more reasonable.
