The Interaction And Cooperation Strategy Of Xiaogan And Wuhan In The Wuhan Metropolitan Area

The Wuhan Metropolitan Area(WMA) is a significant part of the national strategy of the rising of the central China. WMA is the guarantee to push the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The establishment of the Wuhan Metropolitan Area is the result of highly developments of Wuhan and the surrounded small and middle size cities. It shows the spread of the cities groups in the geographical level. The WMA is guided by the national and provincial policies.The Wuhan Metropolitan Area will have a huge influence on the economic and social development in central C hina. The core city-Wuhan will bring economic and social benefits and profits to the surrounded cities which can lead the upgrading of industries and the adjustments of structures of those cities.Xiaogan as small and middle size cities in the WMA is also an important part which can take use of the remained money and resources from Wuhan for its own development. It can also offer Wuhan the developing space, cheap labors and all kinds of resources. When the middle and small cities joined in the WMA, they will become specific functional branches of Wuhan and join the coordinate development of the whole area. However those middle and small size cities have their problems of their city interaction and cooperation strategies in the WMA. Their own recognizes of the cities, policy bias and inner competitions from other cities in the WMA are all the reasons. The problems may lead long-term troubles for the sustainable development of the WMA. This thesis will use the theory of metropolitan area and the theory of small and middle size cities' development strategies to analyze the city position and development strategy of the small cities in the WMA like Xiaogan and try to find the problems through the theatrical and empirical analysis. The thesis will also bring some policy recommendations to improve the current situations and solve the problems.
