Research On The Management Maturity Assessment And Improvement Opportunities In A Knowledge-based SME

The purpose of this article is to assess the management maturity,identify the opportunities for improvement and suggest a strategy to improvement the management maturity in a knowledge-based small and medium enterprises.When assess the management maturity,we use the Criteria for Performance Excellence(CPE)as the maturity model,make response to the 7 categories of CPE,then summarize the advantages and opportunities of performance in enterprises,finally we score the maturity of enterprises.The assessment elements of CPE are "Approach","Deployment","Learning" and "Integration." In the case enterprises,most response are at the level of "Approach",there are more opportunities for improvement to achieve the level of "Deployment","Learning" and "Integration".The method used in this stage include expert evaluation,conversation,questionnaire survey and benchmarking.When identified opportunity for improvement,we review the summary of the opportunities for improvement we got at the previous stage.We focused on the causes of the opportunities and their relevancy,extracts opportunities which is source of other opportunities as key areas of improvement,then generates opportunity report.Eventually,28 key opportunities for improvement were identified in 49 opportunities.The method used in this stage include expert scoring,team evaluation,system analysis.When make suggestion to improving the maturity,we generate a strategy based on the opportunity report.The method used in this stage include case study and benchmarking.There are three achievement of the paper.First,we assessed and scored the management maturity of enterprises.Second,we generated a report of opportunities for improvement.Three,we give a strategy to improvement the management maturity of enterprises based on the report of opportunities for improvement.Case enterprises scoring 108 points in the score table of the Criteria for Performance Excellence,among the most low-grade middle.The significance of the paper is:1,practice the idea,step and method of study the opportunities for improvement in enterprises based on the learning and application of the CPE.2,Cultivate a habit of self-evaluation and improve the performance in enterprise,promote quality awareness,improve enterprise management capabilities.
