Research On Development And Spatial Distribution Characteristics Of Manufacturing In The Hubei,Hunan And Jiangxi Provinces

As an important part of industry and a pillar industry of the national economy,manufacturing is of great importance to the economic development of a country or region.Hubei,Hunan and Jiangxi provinces are located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River,belonging to the central inland areas of China.It plays an important role in the Chinese territorial division of labor.Under the historical background of industrial transfer and central rise,the development of regional manufacturing industry is bound to be one of the issues that need to focus on and study.This paper focus on Hubei-Hunan-Jiangxi region in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and takes manufacturing as the research object.It first analyzes the correlation research and theory about the development of manufacturing and its spatial distribution.Secondly,the development status and evolution trend of manufacturing industry from 2004 to 2013 are analyzed comprehensively,from the output growth,structure,development type and specialization degree and other aspects of the industry.Thirdly,using the data of National Economic Census of 2004,2008 and 2013,the paper analyzes the spatial distribution characteristics,agglomeration degree and structure of the regional manufacturing industry in the Hubei-Hunan-Jiangxi region,and explores the degree of regional agglomeration,the changing characteristics and the main concentration areas of 28 manufacturing industries at the regional level and the provincial level.In addition,the paper discusses the aspects for the influence the spatial distribution of the manufacturing industry in Hubei,Hunan and Jiangxi provinces from three main factors:factor endowment,scale economy and policy system.At the same time,this article makes an empirical analysis by selecting several important indexes and using the econometric model.In the end,we puts forward some policy suggestions on the development of regional manufacturing industry.The results show that:(1)The manufacturing industry in Hubei-Hunan-Jiangxi region has developed rapidly from 2004 to 2013.The capital-intensive industry is still the main industry in the region,but the industrial growth is declining at the present stage.The development trend of labor-intensive manufacturing industry is in good condition;the modern manufacturing industry is developing rapidly particularly in transportation equipment,special equipment and electrical machinery manufacturing.(2)During the study period,the differences of overall spatial distribution and the degree of spatial agglomeration decreased at the municipal level.Meanwhile different manufacturing industries show regional differences and industry heterogeneity in the space distribution and agglomeration characteristics.(3)The gathering degree of capital and technology intensive industries is generally higher than that of labor-intensive industries,however,the spatial agglomeration of capital-intensive industries is not significant,and the majority of the industry in the study period has a decline in geographic concentration.In contrast,the agglomeration effect of the spatial distribution of technology-intensive industries is obviously greater than the dispersion effect.(4)The transportation accessibility,the opening degree and scale economy significantly affect the spatial distribution of the manufacturing enterprises in the Hunan,Hubei and Jiangxi provinces at the municipal level.It shows that enhancing the infrastructure construction such as transportation,improving the opening degree and promoting the formation of a scale market will help to attract the concentration of manufacturing enterprises in the region.
