In the "new normal" economy and the age of the Internet bring important opportunities and challenges for Chinese automotive industry.Chinese automakers follow the guideline,which trading domestic market for technology,and accumulate technical knowledge through joint investment or cooperation in the early 1990s.To thrive,we need those advancing technology form transnational companies and strength our core competitiveness.Having development for many years,our automotive companies have built up strong strength and China has become the biggest manufacturing power and consumption power in the world.But the weak ability of indigenous innovation still discourages the growth of Chinese automotive industry.Nowdays,the third industrial revolution coming up with new opportunities and challenges,cars need to be more energy-saving,intelligent,easier to connecting with Internet in the future.Rapid innovation shows in the process of automotive manufacturing and sale,global integration speed up but our technology growth path still uncertain.By synthetically utilizing the related literatures and available data,this research trying to investigate the industrial structure and development status of Chinese automotive industry and attempt to find out the technical capacity growing path and the stage we are which the theory of modularization and late-developing advantage based.We tested the hypotheses that the factors of economy and technology can have decisive effect on the path conversion of automotive industrial technological progress.Then,using DEA Malmquist method,an empirical test is done to show the trend of Chinese total factor productivity and it's decomposition of automotive industry since 1994 to 2014.Through the analysis above,we come to a conclusion that Chinese automotive industry are between the stage that the initial growth period and the full growth period.After years of learning by doing,China's automotive industry already has the foundation of indigenous innovation.In order to move into the full growth period,joint venture and cooperation still be needed and R&D in key modules become the critical factor.Creating an indigenous brand or product which can win the market also is a matter admitted no delay.
