Analysis Of The Occupational Mobility Of The New Generation Of Migrant Workers

Since the reform and opening up,surplus rural labors have continuously flowed into the city and they have been called migrant workers with characteristics of the times.As time goes by,the first generation of migrant workers are withdrawing the historical stage and the new generation of migrant workers,horned in the 1980s and 1990s with a rural household registration,are becoming an essential part of the urban labor market.Due to different background and growth environment with the traditional migrant workers,they show distinct characteristics both in behaviors and concepts,featured by higher level of education,higher career expectations,more material and spiritual demands,lower degree of tolerance in work and so on.The incompletion of our labor market also adds more challenges to their life and work in the city.Therefore,the analysis of the characteristics and occupational mobility of new migrant workers will have a realistic significance to keep their jobs stable and live a better life.Previous analyses on occupational mobility of migrant workers are focused on one or two factors and other factors are regarded as control variables.So the results may be incomplete and incorrect.Moreover,Domestic researches on occupational mobility are mostly from the perspective of sociology and a few of them are from economics.Therefore,this provides a new perspective and method for the analysis on this paper.Therefore,we have innovation perspective and method.Based on previous experiences and economic theories,the author adopts a systematic research method,including asking questions analyzing questions and solving problems to present the research framework.First of all,the author analyzed the current mobility situation and problems from the occupational condition of young migrant workers and the rule of occupational mobility features.Then the author found out/summarized some influencing factors in four aspects on the frequent occupational mobility and concluded which one played the most important role in the occupational mobility of new migrant workers according to the logit regresstion.Finally,policy recommendations for solving these problems were proposed.The overall comparative analysis of the two generations of migrant workers will have a realistic significance to confirm the new migrant worker ' s characteristics with the times and to well study reasons for their frequent occupational mobility.During the study of the influencing factors of occupational mobility,the author analyzes differences between the new and traditional migrant workers in individual characteristics,human capital,the quality of employment and attitude toward employment and concludes the influencing variables of frequent occupational mobility.Moreover,according to the result of logit regression,the age,vocational skills,the average monthly salary,job environment satisfaction and awareness about mobility all have significant impacts on the frequency of occupational mobility.Among them,age,vocational skills,wage,job environment satisfaction are negatively correlated with the frequent occupational mobility,while the awareness about mobility is positively related.Study on occupational mobility and reasons for frequent job changes of generation of new migrant workers is contributed to understanding the rules and characteristics of frequent job changs,further maintaining the employment stability and building a harmonious society.
