Research On China's Manufacturing Industry And Its Subdivided Sector Competitiveness In The Perspective Of Global Value Chain

The theory of global value chain has been paid attention increasingly all over the world since 21 Century.The reason is that along with the deepening of economic globalization,led by multinational companies,the developed countries and developing countries actively participate in the global value chain through different linkages.But different linkage sector products different value-added.China as the largest exporter of manufacturing in the world,although the degree of its industry participating in the global value chain is rising,mainly engages in the processing and assembly at low value-added sectors,high value linkage like advantages technology development and brand design are still monopolized by developed countries.However,due to the problem of double counting,the traditional trade statistics cannot reflect the status of China's manufacturing industry and its segments in the global value chain.The thesis in the perspective of global value chains(GVC),based on related classic works and literature of international trade and OECD-WTO TIVA database,calculate whole manufacturing industry of our country,nine manufacturing industries and 12 subdivided sectors by indexes of GVC position,GVC participation and GVC RCA competitiveness,then come to the conclusions and suggestions.The thesis is divided into five chapters:Chapter 1 is the introduction,which intruduces the background and significance of the research.In the process of economic globalization,multinational companies cooperate within and among industries,making the production and assembly of intermediate products in many countries in the world.The position of a country's manufacturing industry and its divided sectors in GVC is different,and the trade value added is also different.The significance of this paper is to put forward some suggestions to improve the international competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry and its divided sectors in the perspective of the global value chain.Chapter 2 is about the related theory and literature review.Firstly,the thesis defines the main concepts such as value chain,global value chain and trade in value added.Secondly,the thesis analyzes the development of global value chain theory and competitiveness theory.Finally,it makes a review of the literature on the competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry and its divided sectors and the promotion of the status of the global value chain.Chapter 3 mainly analyzes the competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry and its subdivided sectors on the gross trade in value added.The thesis calculates the change of our manufacture subdivided sectors' proportion of the total export value added of the world,RCA change and comparison of divided sectors.The results show that China is the largest exporter of manufacturing in the world,and the proportion of exports is increasing every year.In China's manufacturing subdivided industries,low technology industries have international advantage,the medium technology industry's competitiveness are generally weak,only some high technology industries have international advantage.Chapter 4 analyzes the competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry and its divided sectors on decomposition of trade in added value.The thesis calculate indexes of GVC position and GVC participation,analyze the changes of the manufacturing industry in China and the United States,and compare the indexes of the participation and position among the developed countries and the developing countries.The results show that China's manufacturing industry highly participate in international specialization.Although GVC position index has obviously risen,but most of subdivided sectors are still in the middle linkage in the world,and have no competitive advantage.Chapter 5 is conclusions and Suggestions.Conclusions:(1)Chinese manufacturing high technology industry develops remarkable.(2)Competitiveness of manufacturing divided sectors are different.(3)Most divided sectors of China manufacturing industry is still in low-end position of the global value chain.Suggestions:(1)Continue to mainly develop the developing high technology industry.(2)Quickly upgrade the manufacturing industry and its divided sectors technology.(3)Implement strategy of rising GVC position for industry.
