In the current domestic construction field, the collaboration of design and construction divorces seriously. The construction side complained that the designers are reluctant to the site and do not understand the construction process and the site requirements. The design personnel complained that the construction personnel quality is low and cannot be very good to achieve the design intent. The collaboration divorcing between design and construction brings a lot of engineering changes in the engineering practice, and leads to the lag of the project schedule, increased costs, and the low quality project. The collaboration between construction and design has affected the healthy and sustainable development of China's construction industry. In this paper, based on the project changes, the collaboration between design units and construction units were studied. This paper analyzed the research status of the design and construction collaboration, and further elaborated the theory of project changes. Based on the actual project cases, 6 samples were selected and a large number of project changes were made. Through scientific classification, the impact of project changes to the collaboration between design and construction was analyzed from various dimensions.Based on the above analysis, solutions to reduce project changes were proposed and the scheme was put to the actual project. Statistics showed that the new collaborative approach can significantly reduce the number of project changes and it can improve the efficiency of collaboration design and construction. This program can be used for reference to other engineering projects.
