A variety of transaction modes for construction project are adopted according to situation of the construction economy development in foreign developed countries, which have promoted further development of the construction economy. However, there is only one mode, namely DBB, widely adopted in China now. Other modes are only tried to be applied in the last couple of years, and it is rare to have successful applications. This paper explains the theory and application of Design-Build mode which are applied widely in developed countries. The purpose of it is to help and guide professionals to be familiar with DB transaction mode and do some further research on it, subsequently promote the application of construction project multi-mode transaction in our country and push our construction industry forward according to the international practices.Based on the relative literatures on engineering project transaction mode and transaction theories on engineering project management, all types of engineering project mode are analyzed. Combined with Shang Du Top Project, the influencing factors on choosing transaction mode are analyzed and the two main modes, DBB widely used by domestic industry and DB mode widely used in foreign countries, are compared in details. The advantages and disadvantages and their application fields of two modes are discussed. Finally DB transaction mode is adopted according to the reality of Shang Du Top Project. The implement of DB transaction mode in Shang Du Top Project is elaborated, which offers instructive reference for other projects. Also some suggestions are put forward to promote application of DB mode.
