Since it has been introduced in mid-90 s,Agile Development methodology has been growing for more than 20 years.During the decades, the agile methodology has been gradually accepted by the various sizes and types of development team.Different from the waterfall model based on the traditional software development methodology, agile methodology extended the idea of iterative development, emphasized the adaptability and people-oriented,by which made up the significant shortage of the traditional software development model which is not able to respond to changing business needs in a timely manner. The PFS Cold Chain Logistics system project has developed a strategy for using agile development models in the face of the uncertainties in the large number of requirements arising from complex and immature business processes,as well as the tight timeline for system go-live requirements. However, for the long-term high-risk projects as of the cold chain system project, the implicit risk management method of the agile development methodology is not able to meet the needs of management and audit. On the other hand, due to differences in management methodology, the traditional risk management process and agile development cannot be simply incorporated. In order to solve the contradiction between the agile development methodology and the risk management process in the PFS project, this paper deeply studied the characteristics of agile development and traditional risk management process, based on the four major risk sources of agile development: technology, demand, project management and personnel, with the practice in the real project, this paper presented a set of effective risk management approach for agile development projects, including What / Why method, risk statement, risk multiple, risk expected monetary value, risk dashboard and burn-down chart. This practice not only implemented the agile value of product over document and cooperation over management, but also in line with the risk management requirement of quickly and effectively controls the risk. The main contributions of this article to agile project management are:1)Introduced What/Why method, daily stand-up meeting, risk dashboard and risk burn-down chart to manage the risk identification and monitoring process in the agile project.By these approaches, risk management becomes a teamwork rather than a project manager's individual task,by which reduced the management pressure for project manager and promoted the team spirit for all team members.2)Introduced to risk multiplier and expected monetary value method to quantify the risk impact of agile projects,in order to carry out risk management activities more efficiently, and suspect cost inefficient investment on risk management activities at the earliest possible, therefore those non-productive work can be reduce eliminated.3)Apply agile thinking to the risk management to simplify the process. In the PFS project, the project team spent only 10% effort but archived 85% result compare with the traditional risk management approach,by practicing the approach presented in this article.
