With the acceleration of urbanization, large communities emerge in the periphery of downtown to settle down center city migrants and floating population.Due to the lack of transport service and other reasons, the level of traffic satisfaction of large community residents is low commonly. Some scholars have suggested that the new-built shopping facilities can significantly improve the quality of residents' travel, but there are little actual comparative analysis about the residents' travel behavior and travel quality changes after the completion of the shopping facilities. Therefore, this paper takes the Shanghai Jinhexincheng as an example, which is a large community on city periphery. We conduct two surveys before and after the completion of the Jiangqiao Wanda Plaza, which is a shopping center near Jinhexincheng,to explore the influence of new-built shopping malls on suburban residents' travel in large communities, according to the changes of resident trips' characteristics and quality.First of all, this paper introduces the basic information of the two surveys, including the survey time, the location information of the research area, community residents' attributes, research methods, research process, the contents of the questionnaire, etc. We also compare the different points of the two surveys.Secondly, this article sums up the changes in residents travel destinations, travel frequency, travel time and sharing rates of different traffic modes in the research area.We analyze the difference of the resident trip characteristics between two surveys, meanwhile,we find internal cause of the changes.Again, this paper introduces the MNL model, uses the data of residents' travel in the second survey to establish MNL model and estimate relevant parameters with theory applying to practice. What's more,we compare the parameters with the mixed logit modeling results which is conducted by Guan Jinping with the data of first survey. This paper also studies the changes of different residents groups' travel mode choice preference and analyses the reasons. At last, the paper calculates and compares the value of time in two models. It can conveniently arrive at a conclusion that the travel quality is improved during twosurveys. In this paper,we use the survey data to arrive at new-built plazas' effect on the characteristics of resident trips in peripheral large communities. At the same time,new-built plazas can effectively improve the quality of residents' travel. The quantization system established in this paper can be reapplied as the way to evaluate the effect of policy implementation.
