This study discusses the expansion characteristics of construction land and its driving mechanism based on landscape expansion index from different scales.Taking the Guangdong Province as an example at the provincial scale, the regional differences in the new construction land extension model between local cities during 2009-2014 were analyzed, and the driving mechanism of different expansion models for construction land was analyzed.Taking Guangzhou City as an example at the municipal scale, the regional differences in the new construction land extension model between districts during 2009-2014 and the relationship between different functional construction land and land expansion models was discussed, and a logistic regression model was used to analyze the driving force for construction land expansion in Guangzhou from 2009 to 2014.The FLUS model was used to predict the expansion of construction land in Guangzhou in 2029 and 2049.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)There are similarities in the regional differences in the construction land extension model between Guangzhou and Guangdong. In terms of statistical differences, they are mainly based on edge expansion, supplemented by enclave and infilling expansion. In terms of spatial differences, the areas with high proportion of filled expansion are all agglomerated, and the areas with high proportion of enclave expansion are distributed around areas with high proportion of filled expansion. The different stages of urban development are the main reasons for the spatial differences in the expansion pattern of construction land.(2)Different construction land expansion modes have different driving mechanisms. There is a negative correlation between population density and enclave expansion of construction land;the edge expansion of construction land is also affected by the ratio of non-construction land and population density, and there is a positive correlation between high non-construction land ratio and population density with edge expansion of construction land. There is a positive correlation between the infilling expansion of construction land and the urbanization rate.(3)Different functional construction lands have different expansion characteristics.Public management and public service lands are mainly supplemented by edge expansion, and enclave and infilling expansion are supplementary;facilities land for commerce and service are mainly based on edge and infilling expansion, supplemented by expansion of the enclave;the residential land is mainly based on infilling expansion, the edge expansion is supplementary. The land for transportation facilities is mainly based on enclave expansion and edge expansion, supplemented by infilling expansion.(4)The driving factors for newly-added construction land in Guangzhou during 2009-2014 were: distance from secondary roads, distance from subway lines, distance from main roads, slope, distance from construction land in 2009,distance from industrial land,Distance from public management land, distance from traffic land, distance from residential land, and distance from commercial land.Among them, only the distance from the public management land is positively related to the newly-added construction land, and other factors are negatively related to the newly-added construction land.(5)From 2009 to 2029,Guangzhou will add 45080 hectares of land for construction, and Guangzhou will add 41,595 hectares of land for construction between 2029-2049.The main growth area for new construction land in Guangzhou during 2009-2049 are Huadu District and Panyu District.
