A Study On Team Development Phase-based Coordination Model And It’s Performance Promotion Mechanism

Abstract/Summary:
Team coordination is one of the effective mechanisms to solve complex tasks.Team coordination not only promotes personal performance,but also affects team performance.Previous team coordination studies mainly focused on the impact of team performance and organization performance.With little attention to team coordination process under appropriate difficulty tasks,previous studies didn’t sufficiently clarify the concrete team coordination process.Based on the theory of group development,the process model of team coordination is constructed and the corresponding trigger events are elaborated through a case study,exploring the effects of coordination level on team task performance and adaptive performance under the different phases of team coordination process,through the empirical study,which has important significance to enhance the level of team coordination and team performance.First,this paper makes a review of the relevant theories and literatures of coordination,task performance and adaptive performance,which provides a theoretical basis for the study.Secondly,in a team coordination task scenario with appropriate difficulties,study 1,through case study,constructs the process model of team coordination,in which team coordination process is divided into four phases of forming,storming,norming and performing.And the triggering event between each two phases is the appearance of constructive suggestions,comments to suggestions and cognitive convergence.Then study 2 further validates the model process of team coordination,as well as put forward the relationship of coordination level on team task performance and adaptive performance under the different stages of team coordination process.Through the correlation analysis and regression analysis,this paper validates the relationship coordination level and team task and adaptive performance under forming stage,and validates the relationship between coordination level and team task performance under performing stage.Data results show that levels of coordination have significant positive impact on task performance in forming stage and performing stage of the team coordination process.For team members through their information sharing and the depth of information communication,it achieves effective communication which improves team task performance.The levels of coordination have significant negative impact on adaptive performance in forming stage of the team coordination process.In forming stage,if team members focus too much on a certain opinion,they will form the same psychological cognition and inhibit team members raising various opinions,which is not conducive to promote adaptive performance.Finally from the results of study 1 and study 2,this paper suggests constructive implications on effectively promoting the performance for managers.In order to improve task performance,team members need to contribute their own suggestions on completing the task or project analysis in forming stage and performing stage of team coordination process,which clarifies the advantages and disadvantages of each suggestion to make the right choice.
