In response to many time-sensitive and complex issues such as new economic, environmental, scientific, medical, and safety/emergency situations,it is increasingly necessary to rely on the collaboration of multiple teams.Therefore,multi-team system has become a widely adopted organizational form, which has attracted extensive attention in theory and practice.Multi-team System(MTS)refers to a system composed of two or more teams with different proximal goals that share a common distal goal and interact with at least one team in the system on input, process and output.Although the multi-team system has many advantages that a single team does not have, due to the multi-level and even conflicting goals, the coordination between teams faces many challenges. In practice, coordination difficulties among multiple teams have also led to many multi-team systems failing to achieve the desired results. Therefore, the discovery of factors that promote or hinder coordination among teams, and the construction of an effective multi-team system coordination mechanism become a key issue for researchers in this field. However, there is currently no consistent conclusion on the relationship between multi-team system coordination mechanisms and multi-team system performance. In order to explore the relationship between coordination mechanism and multi-team system performance, this paper adopts meta-analysis technology to explore the relationship between the two.To be specific, this paper differentiates formal and informal coordination mechanisms, and analyzes the regulatory role of national culture as an informal institutional factor,in order to open the "black box" of the relationship between them. The results of the meta-analysis show that both formal coordination mechanism and informal coordination mechanism can improve the performance of multi-team system, but their functions are different in different cultural contexts. In the context of Chinese culture, the role of informal coordination mechanism is more obvious. However, there is no significant difference in the role of formal mechanisms between Chinese and western cultures. In addition, the study also found that the type of participants also had a moderating effect on the relationship between informal coordination mechanism and multi-team system performance. This study helps us to understand the current situation of multi-team system research field, and provides some ideas for future research in this field,as well as some guidance and reference for the management of existing multi-team organization.
