Place was introduced as the "a center of meaning constructed by experience" into human geography by Tuan Yi-Fu in the 1970s,then it became one of the core concepts of many disciplines.However,from the existing literature,most of the place-related research focused on quantitative analysis,mainly to explore the characteristics of the related concepts and their relationship with others.There is less qualitative research on the place's concept of subjectivity and experience and a lack of research on place from a particular time and space background,and the discussion on the place construction is rarely seen.Under the background of the academic research on place,based on the thinking of"the place of tourists",established in the social phenomenon of the case of Lijiang old town,qualitative research methods were used to analyze the text of the guestbook inPrague coffee house.On the premise of respecting the fact of tourist experience,the author focuses on the subjective experience of tourists and their understanding of the place.Based on this,the paper discusses the process of place construction of tourists,and tries to use the place-related theories to interpret the modernity and its consequences from a critical perspective.This paper discusses the connotation of the place and the process of tourists' place construction.It is helpful to understand the subjective feelings of tourists and the significance of destinations to tourists.It tries to incorporate the tourists' vision into the construction of tourist destinations effectively,provide some suggestions for guiding the planning and management of tourism destination,and promote the sustained and sound growth of tourism economy.The research on the representation of the world is one of the approaches to the study of the new cultural geography.Based on the guestbook,which is the "media",this paper uses grounded theory to analyze the text of "media".By using the qualitative research method of grounded theory,the text shows 8 axial coding categories including "local causes",environmental perception,spatial practice,individual characteristics,cognition and evaluation,personal emotion,the feelings about life,the changing states of mind and 32 open coding categories.And the article reached the following conclusions:(1)The regional experience of tourists and their understanding of the place?The city life and being relaxed are the main reasons why the tourists are in the place,and with fulfilling the desire,the search for the self,the influence of media,and comforting the pains together,all of these things form the tourists' "local causes".?The ancient city landscape and ecological environment are the main components of tourists' environmental perception.In addition,animals,plants and food are also the factors of tourists' environmental perception.?The daily activities are the main spatial practice of the tourists in the place.According to the results of the text analysis,tourism activities are not prominent in the process of the formation of tourists' subjective geographical knowledge.?From the perspective of the connotation of "diversity" place,most tourists have positive personal emotion,cognition and evaluation towards the place,while those with negative connotation are in the minority.And the place of Lijiang is significant for tourists in that it brings them the feelings about life and the changing states of mind.(2)The process of tourists' place constructionAccording to the analysis of the text of the guestbook,the place construction of tourists contains such a process:?Whe "local causes" make the remote perception become proximity perception,which makes it possible for tourists to construct the place.?After the tourists are in the place,they interact with the place through the environmental perception and the spatial practice.Under the influence of the previous experience and the social concept,the tourists experience the place and form the views and attitudes towards the place.?Tourists constructed the "diversity" place,which includes four aspects of cognition and evaluation,personal emotion,the feelings about life and the changing states of mind under the influence of the individual characteristics of the two aspects including the companions and the health reasons.The research shows that both the process of place construction and the place connotation from the final analysis reflect the fact that modernity has a significant impact on the individual's physical and mental aspects.For tourists,the process of place construction is not only a tourist activity but also a kind of a process of escaping from modernity,which reflects the tourists' yearning for leisurely and comfortable"slow life".At the same time,it also reflects the release and return of human nature.Innovation is reflected in two aspects:?The qualitative research method of grounded theory is used to explore the place of tourists and enrich the qualitative research on place,which is a return to the methodology of "place" research in human geography.?This paper discusses the connotation of the place and the process of place construction from the perspective of tourists,and enriches the research on the concept of place of subjectivity and experience.
