Poverty,as one of the three major problems of world development, governments and researchers have long paid special attention to them.Poverty problem, especially in rural areas, has been a matter of concern. In order to reduce the occurrence of catastrophic medical expenses and reduce the burden of farmers' medical treatment, the government has carried out many beneficial exploration and attempts in rural medical security system. The most important thing is the introduction of the "new rural cooperative medical system".This paper uses the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)data to test the impact of the new rural cooperative medical system on the vulnerability of rural areas in China.Firstly, poverty vulnerability in rural areas is calculated based on the Vulnerability as Expected Poverty theory(VEP).And then through the panel fixed effect model to measure the various factors that affect the vulnerability of poverty. In order to solve the problem of selective bias, this paper also uses the Propensity Score Matching and Difference In Difference method to test the net effect of the new rural cooperative system on reducing the vulnerability of poverty. The results show that the incidence of poverty and the vulnerability of poverty in rural areas of China show a downward trend from 2012 to 2014.The proportion of vulnerable groups in poverty groups is significantly higher than that of non-poor groups.Poverty vulnerability is also sustainable, and the vulnerability of a given year will affect future vulnerability. At the same time, the panel fixation model and the PSM-DID model all show that the new rural cooperative system significantly reduced the vulnerability of the sample under different poverty lines, which means the new rural cooperative system has played a positive role in helping rural dwellers to resist the risk of poverty due to illness.
