In recent years,with the slowdown of economic growth,downward pressure on the economy increases.Also,as macro-prudential supervision continues to intensify,commercial banks face more capital controls and constraints,and the stage of rapid expansion has become history.Facing fierce competition in the industry of late years,Bank A has paid more and more attention to the development of retail business.However,its retail business is mainly based on the traditional business model of bank deposits,loans and remittance business,which has seriously restricted the development of retail business in the context of financial and technological disintermediation.It is urgent to strengthen management and organize development ideas.Bank A is facing opportunities and challenges in developing its retail business.HN province,where Bank A is located,enjoys rapid economic development,and residents’ purchasing power increases as well as consumer attitudes have further changed,creating favorable economic conditions for Bank A to develop its retail business.With the strengthening of macro-prudential supervision,the regulatory situation faced by Bank A is not optimistic.The continuous development of Internet technology also has a certain impact on the retail banking market.As a regional commercial bank,Bank A is subject to restrictions on cross-border operations,and the local market is becoming increasingly saturated,while the competitive pressure of the financial industry is intensifying and industry competition is extremely fierce.Bank A’s retail business includes assets business,debt business,intermediary business,and emerging retail business.The proportion of retail business revenue is slightly higher than the average level of city commercial banks,but lower than the average level of small and medium-sized joint-stock banks and large state-owned banks.It shows that Bank A’s business focus is not on retail business and the foundation of retail business is very weak,while it also demonstrates greater room for improvement.The problems of its retail business are as follows: first,the customer management is insufficient,and the number of high-end customers is relatively small;second,product design and R & D capabilities are weak,and the product categories are relatively simple;third,the retail team needs to be strengthened;fourth,the channel construction is not perfect for physical branches and online channel construction is insufficient;fifth,the entire retail business has not formed a unified brand.If Bank A does not solve these problems,its retail business will be struggling to develop.Therefore,the development strategy of Bank A’s retail business is proposed.Firstly,to establish the overall idea of building a boutique citizen bank achieving to become a bank that has the best experience in the city of ZZ.Secondly,to better the management work for individual customers and refine customer stratification.Thirdly,to enhance product research and development capabilities and to optimize product design.Fourthly,to build a learning retail team to promote team transformation.Fifthly,to improve channel construction in order to do well in network transformation and community branch construction and to build a smart bank on the basis of perfecting online channel construction.Finally,to integrate the retail business brands to strive for the sustainable development of Bank A’s retail business.
