Metal rubber(MR)is one kind of elastic porous material.Due to the special properties of the material,it can be used in many harsh environments. Therefore,it has been widely used in the field of vibration.Although MR has many excellent properties, this type of vibration isolator made by MR can not meet the need of vibration damping when it face to some vibration object that its load change is relatively large and some other complex situations. The reason is that the linear range of stiffness of this vibration isolator is relatively narrow, and single MR specimen has limited ability and the deformation of specimen is easily saturated when it face to the complicated vibration loads. So the damping capacity of the vibration isolator drops rapidly. One of the effective means to solve the above problems is to spatially combine two MR specimens with different stiffness characteristics. In this way, there will be to obtain a new damping element that its linear range of stiffness characteristics would be expanded. In this paper, there is analysis about the stiffness model of MR using the theory of micro-stiffness and energy dissipation. The contact state of spiral coil is analyzed from the microscopic perspective. The spatially combination method of MR is proposed and its equivalent combination stiffness is analyzed. The stiffness curves, equivalent parameters and average stiffness of MR were obtained by the test of loading and unloading statically. And analyzing the effecting factors of combined stiffness of MR from the angle of the wire diameter and relative density. This verify the consistency of theoretical research and experimental research of MR combination stiffness. The results showed that the stiffness of the combined MR was significantly larger than that of single specimen, and the linear range of stiffness of the combined MR is wider than that of the single specimen. When other process parameters are fixed, the change of wire diameter and relative density have a significant influence on the combined stiffness of MR.Finally, based on the contact model of MR cantilever beam, there is the finite element simulation analysis about the compression process of the single and combined MR.The results of simulation show that the stiffness characteristics are consistent with the experimental results, and the nonlinear relationship between the load and the deformation of the specimen can be obtained from the loading simulation results of the cantilever model.
