Offshore platform is really important in the oil and gas exploitation area,which provide production and living facilities for offshore drilling,production,construction and other activities.Oil and gas are flammable and explosive.In the process of drilling and transportation,they are often accompanied by the occurence of fire,resulting in irreversible loss.With the development of offshore oil and gas exploration further into the deep sea,semi-submersible drilling platform has been widly accepted for the convience of installation and transportation.The semi-submersible platform need to burn its useless oil and gas gathering from drilling process through its flare boom.Flare boom combustion produces thermal radiation which may casue damage to the platform.In this paper,the safety assessment of flare boom of the semi-submersible platform in fire scene is carried out.The main contents are as follows.(1)Research status of offshore platform fire and flare boom at home and abroad are outlined firstly.This paper introduced the types of offshore platform fire.The theory of jet fire calculation and numerical model are detailed analysed.Based on the fault tree analysis theory,the evolution of the offshore platform fire process is proposed here.A set of research methods of offshore platform fire is given.Fire scene determination,fire load calculation and result analysis,decision making are included in this method.(2)The Fire Dynamic Simulation(FDS)software is taken to model the fire scene and calculate fire loads.Fire of top module of an offshore platform is analyzed as a case study here to verify the realibility of FDS.The result from FDS is compared with the experiment result.(3)A numerical model of semi-submersible platform with flare boom is established based on FDS software.This paper mainly analysis the process of numerical modeling.The simplification of platform,way of combustion and resonable grid scale are thoroughly studied.A precise result and reseonable computing time are ensured on the basis of the proposed grid scale.And protection measures such as the determination of water curtain parameters are also included in the modeling analyse.(4)Based on the actual working status of flare boom and sea condition,the reasonable combination of variety of possible wind direction and flare boom self-locking angle is analyzed.While the most unfavorable condition of flare boom at fire is selected and analyzed.The fire scene of flare boom under different wind speed and differenct water curtain is simulated.Thermal radition is calculated and the platform safety is assessed.What's more,the protective measures are also put forward in this paper.
