From the economic point of view, the ultimate goal of production is to meet the demand of consumption,so all the environmental responsibility caused by energy use and pollution emissions in an economy can be borne by the consumption of corresponding products and services. At present, consumption's contribution to economic growth is increasing, which is becoming the“New Normal”day by day.To achieve sustainable development,it's significant to change the consumption pattern timely to reduce the environmental damage while the consumption capacity of rural residents is increasing. Thus, using IO tables of China's 30 provinces from 2002 to 2012,this paper firstly measures the pollution embodied in rural residents'consumption. The results indicate that, except solid wastes, the pollution embodied in rural residents'consumption has been decreasing, and the NH3-N emissions embodied in consumption in central China is higher than the eastern and western parts. The amount of western China's COD and SO2emissions embodied in consumption is the highest while that of eastern China's is the lowest.Besides, the amount of SW embodied in consumption in all the regions is similar, showing rapid growth trend.Secondly, based on SDA method, this paper studies the factors affecting the pollution embodied in consumption of rural residents, finding that the pollution embodied in consumption is mainly affected by the positive effects of consumption scale and the negative effects of pollution intensity, the effect of the input structure depends on the region and the type of pollutant, but the effect is minimal. Finally, based on the panel fixed effect model, the Environmental Engel Hypothesis is tested, the results show that the pollution embodied in consumption is inversely related with the income of residents, which means the hypothesis makes sense. This paper has better policy implications:accelerating the transformation and upgrading of rural residents'consumption, encouraging green consumption and promoting sustainable economic development.
