Investgation On The Preparation And Optical Properties Of Yb:YAG And Tm:YAG Transparent Ceramics

As a commonly used laser dielectric material,YAG transparent ceramics have received much attention due to its excellent physical properties,chemical properties,and optical properties.In this paper,Yb:YAG transparent ceramics with high transmittance were prepared by solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering.The transmittance,phase,morphology and porosity of YAG transparent ceramics were analyzed in detail using UV-visible spectrophotometer,XRD,SEM and optical microscope.The effects of holding time,sintering temperature,stoichiometric ratio and sintering aids on the optical properties and microstructure of Yb:YAG transparent ceramics were systematically studied.The optimal preparation process of Yb:YAG transparent ceramics was obtained.At the same time,Tm:YAG transparent ceramics with different doping concentrations were prepared by solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering.The effect of sintering temperature on the transmittance of Tm:YAG ceramics was studied.The main results obtaine d are as follows:1.Using commercial oxide nano-powders(Y2O3,Al2O3,Yb2O3)as raw materials,Yb:YAG transparent laser ceramics with high transmittance were successfully prepared by solid-state reaction vacuum sintering.2.1at%Yb:YAG transparent ceramics were sintered at different temperatures and different holding time.The experimental results show that the optimum sintering temperature is 1760°C.The high and low temperatures will decrease the transmittance of ceramics.The optimum holding time is 10h.If the holding time is too short,the growth of crystal grains will be unfavorable,and more pores will be produced.If the holding time is too long,the cost will increase.3.Set the molar ratio of Al to Y is 3:5 as the reference ratio,the amount of yttrium oxide and Ytterbium oxide is kept constant,changing the amount of alumina,and the effect of stoichiometric ratio on Yb:YAG transparent ceramics is studied.The experimental results show that the sample with the deviation of alumina content of-0.2%has the highest transmission,which is 60.6%at 400nm and 69.5%at1064nm.4.Yb:YAG transparent ceramics were fabricated by using Si O2 and B2O3 as sintering aids.The experimental results show that when the addition of Si O 2 and B2O3 is 0.9at%and 0.6at%respectively,the transmittance of ceramics is the hig hest,which is 77.8%at1064nm,63.7%at 400 nm.5.Yb:YAG transparent ceramics with different doping concentrations(1at%,5at%,10at%,15at%)were prepared and all have high light transmittance.As the doping concentration increases,the transmittance of the ceramic gradually decreases.The optimum preparation conditions were as follows:the stoichiometric ratio of alumina was set at-0.2%,and 0.9 at%of Si O2 and 0.6 at%of B2O3 were added as sintering aids and sintered at a temperature of 1760?for ten hours.The obtained 1at%Yb:YAG transparent ceramic has a light transmittance of 67.2%a t 400 nm and 78.9%at 1064 nm.The thermal diffusivity of ceramic decreases with the increase of Yb doping concentration,and the thermal diffusivity of ceramic sample with 1at%doping concentration is the highest,which is 3.414mm~2/s.6.Using commercial oxide nano-powders(Y2O3,Al2O3,Yb2O3)as raw materials,Tm:YAG transparent laser ceramics with different doping concentrations(1,2,3,5 at%)were prepared by vacuum sintering of solid-state reaction.All ceramic samples have good light transmittance,3at%ceramic sample has the highest light transmittance,reaching 63.4%at 1064nm and 45.9%at 400nm.The thermal diffusivity of ceramic decreases with the increase of Tm doping concentration,and the thermal diffusivity of ceramic sample at 1at%is the largest,which is 3.447mm~2/s.
