With the implementation of the "two-child policy",it marked the arrival of the two-child era in China. How two children(children of mixed ages)in a two-child family achieve mutual growth by playing together, learning from each other, promote one another has become a new topic. Some of the existing toys for children are designed and manufactured on the premise of only child.Excessive consideration of the parents' purchasing psychology and the lack of psychological research on the real user of the product—children results in toys for children that are designed and manufactured can not meet the real needs of children, and it is even more difficult to meet the new needs of the mixed-age education in two-child family structure. In this paper, the preschool children of mixed ages(3-6 years old)were identified as the target user group, and the field investigation was carried out.The basic composition of toys and teaching aids and children's real needs in the study were obtained, and the needs of the design of toys for preschool children were summarized. The concept of synaesthesia is applied to the design of toys for children of mixed ages.Starting from three design points of user's usage scene, user needs and product functions,a new strategy for designing toys and teaching aids for children of mixed ages is formed by combining the concept of mixed-age education. This paper attempts to explore a design method for toy products for children in the interdisciplinary field, and use this method to analyze and optimize the children's play experience,to extract the elements of their play experience,to correspond with the function of the products, and to get the design point of the optimization experience.By building a model for the product, the gap between the user's psychological model and the product's performance model is reduced so as to meet the real needs of users.
