Study On The Influence Of Construction Workers' Safety Cognitive Ability On Their Behavior Results

In China,construction workers are one of the large numbers of employment groups.However,they are faced with many occupational safety behavior problems,such as,weak safety awareness,insufficient safety skills,poor safety knowledge and irregular safety behavior,which need to be solved urgently.It is very important to understand the influencing factors of safety behavior and improve them.According to the theory of accident cause and the cognition process,this paper analyses the influence of safety cognition on safety result through behavior,and then constructs the logical frame of "safety cognition-safety behavior-safety result".Based on the questionnaire survey data,this study measures the indexes of construction workers' safety cognitive ability,and also builds an ordered logit model to explore the impact of construction workers' safety cognitive ability on their behavior results.The main results are as follows.(1)The item response theory was employed to measured constructors' safety cognitive skills by using data drawn from a randomly sampled survey of constructors.The results showed that 76.85% of the respondents have higher safety cognitive skills,and 16.20% report moderate skills,while 6.95% express lower safety cognitive skills.(2)Based on accident cause theory and cognitive process theory,the logical framework of "safety cognition-safety result" is constructed.The study builds influence model of "safety cognitive ability-safety behavior result”.The results of ordered logit empirical model show that safety cognitive ability and safety behavior result significantly influence each other,and the degree of education,type of work,safety training,safety cognitive attention and the number of accident avoidance have significant effects on safety cognitive ability.Safety protective measures,safety cognitive attention and safety cognitive ability also have significant effects on the outcome of safety behavior.In addition,the regression results of different sample groups show that the safety cognitive ability and safety behavior of different construction groups or construction personnel are significantly affected by different factors.(3)Based on the results of the empirical research,this study puts forward some suggestions for the construction enterprises to choose the construction workers and take appropriate safety management measures.For example,the enterprise may refer to the summary table of the significant factors in this study to choose the right construction workers in the recruitment,and also should take measures to improve the security awareness of the different construct workers.In order to improve the construction workers' safety cognitive ability and the results of safety behavior,enterprises should strengthen the workers' learning of safety knowledge,sign labor contracts with workers,provide construction safety training,and use safety protection facilities to improve the results of safety behavior.
